Kedarnath Temple Opening & Closing Date
- Opening Date: The Kedarnath Temple doors opened on May 2, 2025, at 7:00 AM during Vrishabha Lagna, following traditional rituals at Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath.
- Closing Date: The temple will close in November 2025, with the exact date to be announced later
How to Reach Kedarnath
By Road:
- Travel to Sonprayag via Haridwar, Rishikesh, or Dehradun.
- From Sonprayag, take a shared jeep to Gaurikund, the base for the trek.
By Trek:
- Embark on a 16 km trek from Gaurikund to Kedarnath, taking approximately 6-8 hours
- The route passes through Jungle Chatti, Bheem Bali, Linchauli, and finally reaches Kedarnath
By Helicopter:
- Helicopter services are available from Phata, Guptkashi, Sirsi, and Sonprayag to Kedarnath
- A round-trip costs between ₹6,000 and ₹8,500, with flights taking about 8-10 minutes .
- New for 2025, helicopter services are now operational from Sonprayag, providing an alternative to the traditional trek .
Accommodation Options
- Kedarnath: Limited options including GMVN guesthouses and tents.
- Gaurikund & Sonprayag: Various dharamshalas and lodges available.
- Booking: Pre-booking is recommended, especially during peak season (May-June)
Best Time to Visit
- Summer (May-June): Pleasant weather with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 30°C.
- Autumn (September-October): Ideal for avoiding monsoon rains and enjoying clear skies .
- Monsoon (July-September): Avoid due to heavy rainfall and slippery trails.
