Oscar Winner Resul Pookutty Urges Youth to Recognize Their Talents and Pursue Their Passion

At the three-day ‘Delhi Creators Summit,’ organized by the Indian Institute of Creative Skills (IICS), Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty delivered an inspiring message to young people, urging them to identify their talents and pursue careers aligned with their passions. Pookutty, who won an Academy Award for his work on Slumdog Millionaire at the age of 37, emphasized that every child possesses some form of talent, and with dedication, success is inevitable.

During his interaction with the media, Pookutty stressed the importance of turning passion into a profession. He noted that the Government of India recognized the significance of skill development in 2012 and began efforts to provide young people with the tools to unlock their potential.

“Every child is unique, and many struggle to identify their true talents,” said Pookutty. “Often, societal and familial pressures prevent them from exploring their abilities. The Government of India, in collaboration with various institutions, is committed to helping youth discover and cultivate their potential.” Pookutty encouraged the youth to evaluate their interests carefully before choosing a career, as pursuing a profession aligned with their passions ensures success and fulfillment.

In a related announcement, Ved Mani Tiwari, CEO of the National Skill Development Council (NSDC) and Managing Director of NSDC International (NSDCI), revealed that the Indian Institute of Creative Skills (IICS) will soon be formally inaugurated. Tiwari shared that the institute’s mission is to unlock the potential within every child and provide them with global opportunities.

Highlighting the institute’s world-class infrastructure, Tiwari stated that IICS is a part of the Skill India Mission, offering a diverse array of skills under one roof. Graduates will receive certification from Skill India, helping them build a career in various creative fields. “The goal is to offer an inclusive platform where students can develop their talents and gain employment opportunities,” Tiwari added.

Dr. Mohit Soni, CEO of the Media and Entertainment Skills Council (MESC), congratulated the participants of the summit and expressed confidence in IICS’s ability to support young talent. “With its top-notch trainers and infrastructure, IICS will undoubtedly provide students with the tools they need to succeed in the film and media industry,” Dr. Soni said.

Film producer and IICS Chief Mentor Ketki Pandit echoed this sentiment, adding, “Every video creator is, in essence, a filmmaker. IICS aims to nurture their skills and help them meet global industry standards, opening doors to employment and financial independence.”

Renowned Bollywood and international makeup artist Yasmin Rogers, who is also an IICS mentor, highlighted a gap in the industry. She noted the shortage of professional makeup artists available for outdoor shoots, emphasizing that IICS will provide training and employment opportunities to bridge this gap, both in India and abroad.

Dr. Akhil Kumar, a key figure behind the ‘Delhi Creators Summit,’ noted the event’s unique blend of creators, ranging from those with millions of followers to those with smaller but dedicated audiences. “This diverse group created a dynamic learning environment where attendees exchanged insights on personal growth and development,” Dr. Kumar said. With more than 80 creators participating, he expressed IICS’s continued commitment to supporting youth development through such events.

The ‘Delhi Creators Summit’ was a significant step toward creating a global platform for young, aspiring creators, further reinforcing IICS’s mission to help youth unlock their potential and succeed in their chosen fields.
