Priyanka Chopra Jonas has added another feather to her cap by joining the Academy Awards 2025 shortlist contender, Anuja, as an executive producer.
The film, directed by Adam J. Graves and produced by Suchitra Mattai, previously clinched the live-action short award at the 2024 HollyShorts Film Festival, propelling it to Oscar contention.
Priyanka expressed her pride in being part of this impactful project, calling it a “beautiful film” that addresses a pressing global issue affecting millions of children.

In her statement to Variety, she emphasised the importance of shedding light on the difficult choices faced by children caught between the pull of uncertain futures and the demands of present circumstances.
Anuja tells the story of a 9-year-old girl working alongside her elder sister, Palak, in a small garment factory in New Delhi. The narrative dives deep into the struggles of the young protagonist as she faces a life-altering decision: whether to continue her education or support her family by working at the factory. This pivotal choice not only shapes her future but also impacts the trajectory of her family’s survival.
Set against the backdrop of systemic socio-economic challenges, the film brings attention to the plight of countless children across the globe who are forced into similar dilemmas.
The making of Anuja has been a collaborative effort with notable partners. It was developed in association with Salaam Baalak Trust, a nonprofit organisation established by Mira Nair’s family to support street and working children, and Shine Global, renowned for producing Academy Award-winning documentaries like War/Dance (2007) and Inocente (2012).
The film also boasts an impressive team of producers, including Mindy Kaling and Oscar-winning filmmaker Guneet Monga Kapoor, who joined as an executive producer.
