A beauty influencer from Delhi has sparked controversy online after she shares a beauty hack where she uses a green chili as a “natural lip plumper.” The video, uploaded on Instagram by Shubangi Anand, went viral, gaining over 21 million views within a several days.
The video starts with Shubangi holding a green chili, which she slices and rubs the exposed part onto her lips. As she continues the process, the effects of the chili start to show. She takes a deep breath, applies a lip tint, and finishes her look with a glossy finish. The caption reads, “Would you try?” accompanied by chili and fire emojis, inviting her followers to try the unusual method themselves.
The video went viral. Many viewers expressed concerns about the potential risks of using chilies on sensitive skin, particularly the lips. One user commented, “Dumbest thing on the internet?” Another added, “I’ve tried similar hacks, and trust me, this is not a safe method. Just buy a lip plumper from a reliable brand!” A third person stated, “This hack might give a temporary plump, but it’s definitely not worth the irritation or burns!”
Some viewers even shared their own experiences, with one writing, “I accidentally used a similar hack, and my lips were swollen for days!” Another user jokingly warned, “I’d rather stick to regular lip gloss than have my lips look like they’ve been on fire.”
