“Falguni Agarwal discusses the latest fashion trends in India, from couture-inspired everyday wear to the rise of fast fashion and sustainability.”
Fashion is an art, and Falguni Agarwal is its passionate creator. Not only a style icon and beauty influencer, she’s also a gifted singer. In this conversation, we dive into the latest trends and discover how she stays ahead in the ever-evolving world of fashion.
What current fashion trends in India do you find most exciting?
I’m fascinated by the fusion of traditional and modern elements, particularly with the way sarees are being reinvented through experimental draping and contemporary styling. There’s also an increasing influence of couture design sensibilities seeping into simpler, everyday outfits. The intricate detailing, luxurious fabrics, and attention to structure and fit, which were once reserved for high fashion, are now becoming accessible through ready-to-wear collections. Additionally, the shift toward sustainable fashion is making waves, as more designers adopt eco-friendly practices. Fast fashion brands like Newme are also shaping the partywear scene with trendy, affordable options that cater to younger, fashion-forward audiences
How do you keep yourself updated on the latest trends?
I stay on top of trends by following fashion weeks, both internationally and within India, as well as through social media platforms. Collaborating with designers like Vaishali S allows me to gain firsthand insights into the latest in Indian fashion. I also love observing street style, which often reflects some of the most authentic trends. Networking at industry events, and fashion shows, and being part of the wider fashion community also helps me stay ahead of emerging styles.
Which designers or brands do you believe are leading the way in Indian fashion right now?
Designers like Sabyasachi, Anita Dongre, and Manish Malhotra remain influential for their blend of tradition and innovation. Gaurav Gupta’s avant-garde silhouettes and Vaishali S’s use of indigenous textiles are especially inspiring, pushing the boundaries of Indian fashion. Additionally, brands rooted in craftsmanship and contemporary design are making a strong impact, while fast fashion players like Newme influence how young people approach casual and party wear.
What do you think are the most popular styles among your audience in 2024?
My audience is drawn to effortlessly chic styles, but there’s a noticeable shift towards incorporating couture-inspired elements into their daily wear. They love outfits that feature luxe fabrics, structured silhouettes, and fine detailing, which elevate their look while still being wearable and comfortable. Co-ord sets, flowy dresses, and Indo-Western fusion pieces remain popular, and there’s a strong appreciation for bold prints, vibrant hues, and statement accessories. Overall, there’s a demand for high-quality, versatile pieces that combine sophistication with everyday practicality.
Can you share a fashion tip that has transformed your styling game?
A game-changing tip for me has been to embrace layering and accessorizing. Whether adding a structured blazer to a traditional outfit or experimenting with bold jewellery, layering adds depth and character to any look. Investing in statement pieces like belts or sunglasses can also elevate even the simplest outfit, giving it a fresh, contemporary edge.
