Indian Fashion Designer Rohit Bal Passes Away At 63

Legendary designer Rohit Bal, who revolutionised Indian fashion, passed away at the age of 63 today, on November 1. Only a few weeks earlier, Bal had made his fashion circuit comeback after health problems, presenting up at Lakme Fashion Week, closing the magnanimous season with his comeback. Well-known for his creative methods, he brought India’s rich cultural legacy to life in a modern tapestry that attracted attention from all over the world. His creations were notable for their flawless fusion of modernity and heritage, permanently altering Indian fashion. The industry loses a trailblazer, and generations to come will remember his contributions to improving India’s design style.

Sharing the news of Bal’s unfortunate demise, FDCI shared on Instagram, “We mourn the passing of Legendary designer Rohit Bal. He was a founding member of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI). Known for his unique blend of traditional patterns with modern sensibilities, Bal’s work redefined Indian fashion and inspired generations. His legacy of artistry, and innovation along with forward thinking will live on in the fashion world. Rest in peace GUDDA  You are a legend.”

Bal was admitted to Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital in November 2023 as he complained of heart ailments, followed by a totally unconscious nature. Having endured a severe heart attack in 2010, the designer subsequently battled escalating pancreatitis, a condition that has deteriorated over the years. Over the last few months, the 62-year-old has experienced a series of hospitalisations due to significant health complications. Rohit Bal had undergone an emergency angioplasty when he suffered a heart attack in February 2010.

As news of the iconic designer’s death broke late evening, netizens took to Google to confirm the reports. As per Google Trends data, searches for ‘rohit bal’ picked up after 9pm on Friday night, peaking at 9:38pm and 10:02pm.
