By Keyur Barad, Co-Founder, The Chlorophyll Estate
In an era where sustainability and health-conscious living are at the forefront, The Chlorophyll Estate stands as a beacon of eco-friendly tourism and farm-to-fork dining. Co-founded by my brother Nishit and me, this three-acre sanctuary near Mumbai embodies our family’s 15-year journey from barren land to a thriving organic farm. Our commitment to sustainability is evident in every facet of The Chlorophyll Estate.

A significant highlight is our Miyawaki-style forest, occupying half an acre. This dense plantation of native species like Jamun, Neem, and Indian Gooseberry enriches local biodiversity, aids in temperature regulation, and provides habitats for birds and insects. The flourishing bee and butterfly populations enhance pollination, leading to more robust and flavorful produce.
Additionally, we practice mulching, utilizing fallen leaves and kitchen vegetable waste to enrich the soil naturally. This method reduces the need for chemical fertilizers, promoting a healthier ecosystem and ensuring that our farming methods are as organic as the produce we grow. Consuming produce harvested at its peak ripeness offers unparalleled health benefits. Fruits and vegetables begin to lose nutrients immediately after being picked; therefore, the shorter the time from farm to table, the higher the nutritional value.
At The Chlorophyll Estate, guests enjoy produce that retains its optimal levels of vitamins and minerals, enhancing overall well-being. Moreover, our organic farming practices mean that our produce is free from harmful pesticides and chemicals, reducing exposure to substances linked to health issues. This commitment ensures that every bite is as safe as it is nutritious.
The farm-to-fork experience at The Chlorophyll Estate is a culinary adventure that reconnects guests with the origins of their food. Harvesting your fruits and vegetables fosters a deeper appreciation for each meal. This hands-on involvement not only educates but also enhances the dining experience, making it more personal and satisfying. Our diverse array of over 140 varieties of fruits, vegetables, spices, and flowers ensures a rich and varied palate. From the sweetness of Medziphema pineapples to the zest of freshly picked lemongrass, each meal is a celebration of nature’s bounty. As a millennial deeply immersed in the art of farming, my journey with The Chlorophyll Estate has been transformative. The challenges of reviving barren land into a lush, productive farm have instilled in me a profound respect for nature’s resilience and the importance of sustainable living. Engaging directly with the land has provided clarity and purpose, reinforcing the significance of sustainable practices in today’s world. It’s a lifestyle that resonates with the millennial pursuit of meaningful, health-conscious, and eco-friendly experiences.
We invite you to join us in this journey towards a healthier, more sustainable future. Come, savor the freshness of farm-to-fork dining, breathe in the tranquility of our Miyawaki forest, and perhaps, find inspiration to embark on your path of sustainable living.
